it's hard to believe that we've only know our awesome friends the lyons for just under three years now! in august of 2006, justin and amelia hired us to photograph their family portraits...little did i know that on that day we would meet some of our dearest friends that are the best people to do life with! since 2006, our two families have been on many adventures, vacations, and day trips together as well as a gazillion double dates :) justin has also been my trusty parter in crime on the manventures of the mammoth men...pretty much the coolest thing you can do as a man :) over the years we've watched the lyons mature into AMAZING photographers and thrown high fives all along the way as their business and other professional endeavors have taken off! we seriously couldn't be happier for them, and feel truly blessed to count them among our closest friends. well it took us three years to make it happen, but it was finally time to actually make good on all the times we dreamed of doing a family portrait session trade! a few weeks prior to our turn to shoot the lyons, they set the bar UBER-HIGH when the photographed our family so radically!!! here's our turn...

you know when you build something up in your head for so long that it can't possibly be as cool as you think it is? well grace and chris booked us for their wedding in ravello, italy at the re.donk.u.lous villa cimbrone about a year ago and ever since then we've been dreaming about how awesome it would be...well, we're happy to say, grace and chris' wedding was beyond awesome...it was BEAWESOME!!! being imported to italy to shoot a wedding = WIN getting there and discovering that the couple are darn near the coolest people ever = EPIC WIN there are a gabiziltrillion amazing images from this wedding...here's our favorite gabillion :)

seriously, the grounds at villa cimbrone are overwhelmingly gorgeous...truly somewhere that has to be experienced in person to truly capture it's awesomeness! we could have wandered around shooting for days...although we probably would have gotten lost in the acres and acres of gardens :)

the view from the edge of the cliff of villa cimbrone takes your breath away...it's a straight drop thousands of feet down to the amalfi coast!!!

grace and chris' ceremony was full of emotions...there wasn't a dry eye in the house!

the ring bearer was so choked up over grace getting married...it was SO adorable!!!

sometimes you just have to ask the bridal party to climb on top of a four foot wall to make shots like this happen...thanks for playing along guys!!!

after some post ceremony portraits it was time for grace, chris, and all the guests to make the loooooooooooong trek back into the main piazza of ravello...escorted by two italian men singing and playing guitars the whole way of course :)

after our walk back to town, the guests took a little rest while we headed out for a few more portraits around the small hilltop town of ravello....

after portraits round two, we headed up to the municipal building of ravello where grace and chris were legally married by a town official...gotta make it legit!

we weren't hired to cover the dinner festivities that closed out the amazing day for grace, chris, and their closest family and friends...but here's the view they got to enjoy from the cliffside restaurant :)

oh, and i almost forgot... THE... RING... SHOT!!!

we've been enjoying italy for the past week road tripping around on a whirlwind vacation...we've got a bazillion photos to share from the trip as well as the AMAZING wedding we shot while we were there so stay tuned this week for lots o more goodness. at the start of our vacation we decided to start a little project taking self portraits during our travels (what else would a couple of photo nerds do?)...it was a blast and will definitely be a fun new project we'll do anytime we travel :) all images were shot on a tripod with a nikon D700 on self timer and either a 20mm, 24mm tilt shift, or 45mm tilt shift. we're in italy right now. IT'S PURE AWESOMENESS. we were imported to photograph grace and chris's italian wedding extravaganzagasm...they melted off half our faces with their radness...so we're traveling around italy wearing sars masks. we'll be exploding the blog with bazillions of pictures when we get home...

TRUE STORY. -ISH.

when jaclyn and i got married, she was 18 and i was 21...just shy of one year into marriage we had the hurricane of energy known as the grace. jaclyn jumped into being a mom with both feet at the ripe old age of 19 and has been the GREATEST MOTHER EVER SINCE! nearly six years of mothering later, words cannot express how insanely proud of her i am!!! not only is she full of love, compassion, patience, and grace towards our amazing kiddos but she somehow manages to look amazingly effortlessly beautiful all the while :) i'm going to nominate her for TIME's person of the millenium, done. to the rest of you amazing mothers out there, we wish you many blessings on this mother's day!!!
