the image is found the wu wedding 4.30.07
april 21st . 2007

we've been looking forward to jon and sheryl's wedding every since their awesome engagement session a few months ago. their wedding was a loooooong day that had us starting at 8:00 in the morning and wrapping up around 9:00 that evening! we couldn't think of two kinder, more lighthearted people to spend a thirteen hour day with! also, this wedding officially marks the start of our wedding season!!!

sheryl reading a sweet little note from her friend in the morning.
sheryl showing off her magic hand skillz :)
the flower girl and ring bearer...so cute!
one of the things we love about weddings is that we always get to see somthing new!!! for instance...at jon's prep, his best man's tie was too big so they ended up stapling the back of it to take up the extra slack!
here we have the reaction of what happens when the groomsmen get really bored, start playing with walkie talkies, and one of them brings one to the restroom...i'll let your minds fill in the rest :)
most asian weddings have a lot of cameras around...but this guy was shooting two handed!
sheryl with her dad before the ceremony...notice sheryl's "bribe" candy to get the ring bearer and flower girl to cooperate :)
jon and sheryl were all laughs during their beautiful ceremony...
i think the only spot of color we saw all day in the vast beige world that is rancho bernardo was in the church lobby where there was this art project grid of color thing...so naturally we took advantage of it for the bridal party photos.
then it was finally time for some shots with sheryl and jon around the church grounds...
then back into the limo where their bridal party was waiting to toast them!
after a small break it was off to pearl chinese restaurant in rancho bernardo for the reception...where we found the maid of honor re-writing her toast :)
and the reaction...
for those of you that haven't attended large chinese receptions before, they always have games to be played while everyone is eating thier ten course meal. well sheryl and jon had a really fun game where they each had each others head on a stick, they then faced back to back and had to answer a series of questions of "who would...." by holding up the appropriate head....it was hilarious!!!
there was also a LOT of clicking of the glasses...here's jon showing how the smooching is done!
toasting the tables!
the rings on chopsticks.
you didn't think we would see those heads and not put them to good use did you?!?!?!?!?

the image is found march of dimes 4.29.07
on saturday, my sisters and i headed out for the march of dimes in riverside. luckily, the walk started at 8:00am so it only got to 80 degrees ;) the 6.5 miles seemed to fly by and it was truly amazing to see how many people came out to walk for this wonderful cause.

nicole, danielle, and me.
nicole made these shirts for us. a little backstory, nicole has four kids, all of whom were born prematurely. joshua was born the earliest at 30 weeks and weighed only 3 lbs, 10 oz. now all four kids are healthy and keep her on her toes ;)
rachel was there cruising along in her stroller...
these were everywhere so we wouldn't get lost. if they weren't there i would have ended up in barstow or something!
we made it!
there were photos everywhere of babies when they were born and what they look like now. some of them were so unbelievably tiny and it is a miracle they are where they are today.
the newest holley...baby jessica!
i love this one of danielle and jessica...she's only 2 1/2 months old but she looks like she's laughing!
yours truly and little miss diva rachel.
we will definitely be back next year!!!

the image is found giving back . mexico with christian city church 4.28.07
about a month ago some of you may remember the cool staff photos we took of the awesome folks of christian city church. well a few weeks ago i was talking with them and they asked if we would be willing to come with them down to mexico to shoot some pictures at four of the orphanages they are sponsoring...to which we responded "OF COURSE!" we had actually been longing to find a way to use our photography for something other than commercial gain and this was the perfect opportunity. jaclyn and i had actually shot images at two HIV orphanages in mexico when we first started photography like seven years ago and it was such a moving experience that we always wanted to do it again. well the opportunity finally fell in our laps after all this time! we feel truly blessed to have been able to help out.

we headed down on tuesday with pastor leanne, summer, yvette, rachael, jerry, and sue for a whirlwind tour of these four orphanages. it is so hard to put into words the impact of the experience! one of the things that struck me the most was the need for love and affection that all the children had. every single place we arrived at the children would come running and jump in total stranger's arms. you don't realize how basic the need for affection is until you see what life is like for children who do not have parents to offer it to them on a daily basis. the other thing that struck me was the absolute dedication and selflesness of the ministers that work at and manage these orphanges. it is realatively easy for us to swoop into these places for a few hours, help out a little, and go on our merry way...but these people are there every day, day in and day out serving the needs of these kids. they truly live by the code "The King will reply, I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me" Matthew 25:40

we also wanted to give a huge shout out to jerry mctaggart who is one of the principal sponsors of these orphanages. if you would like more information on the mission of these homes, to donate, or volunteer, please check out catherine's house.

you can check out a slideshow of all the images by CLICKING HERE

our first stop was the all boys orphanatorio emmanuel in tijijuana. when we arrived all the kids were already in class....
but the boys were very happy to see a pretty girl like jaclyn coming around to take pictures :)
the manager of orphanatorio emmanuel...
then it was off to the cristo de la cuidad orphanatorio in downtown tijijuana.
this kid invited me to play foozball with them...half way through the game he realized i totally suck :)
after our two stops in tijijuana we embarked on a couple hour drive south to ensenada to have lunch and hang out with the beautiful children of the kid's kingdom orphanage. the children of kid's kingdom we SOOOO adorable and full of so much joy!
ok, is this little girl not the cutest little thing you have ever seen?!?!?
jaclyn and rachael muggin for the "myspace" photo :)
gotta love the swings!
summer and leanne with the kids...
stage diving in the chapel :)
our last stop of the day was at aqua viva in ensenada. agau viva is based in the middle of the agricultural area of mexico and houses a number of orphans and also acts as a day care to the parents who have to work all day six days a week to make ends meet.
this boy's look was so piercing.
pastor leanne, yvette, and jerry admiring one of the babies.
the children at every place we went to were so loving it was truly amazing. this girl ran up to me and just jumped up on my shoulders and wouldn't let me put her down! then to my surprise she took my glasses!

the image is found one day . the eight 20 way 4.25.07
jaclyn and i would like to say a HUGE thank you and congratulations to eric and nicky from eight20 photography for being our first ever private one day . your way shootshop participants!!! we all had a great time hanging out together all day and we were so proud of eric and nicky for taking this big step for their business...i wish we were that smart when we started! it was really awesome to be able to tailor our instruction and advice just to their situation and needs.

i am sure we left them with heads spinning full of information, but they made time to send us the sweetest note that evening :)

Hey Nate and Jaclyn,

Thank you so much for today! We had a great time and learned so much. We have a lot of stuff to do, but think that we have a good idea of our next move and a good business plan. You really helped us find out what we can do, and who we can become. Thanks again, it was really great meeting you guys!

Eric and Nicky

among all the chit chat we headed out for a quick photoshoot to demonstrate how we shoot and interact with clients. we were sure to show our "make something out of nothing" techniques so we shot basically the entire session in 100 square yards behind a liquor store :) a special thanks to two of our favorite clients michael and nellie for coming out at the last minute and modeling for us! after we shot around for a while we headed back to the studio to talk about raw processing and some photoshop magic :) here's a few of our images....
one last shot of the crew! from left to right...nicky, eric, yours truly, super jaclyn, michael, and nellie.

the image is found colleen + dan 4.20.07
gettin hitched spetember 15th, 2007

colleen and dan were such a blast to shoot!!! i photographed their engagement session on wednesday in the midst of some of the strongest wind i've ever experienced in southern california and they were total troopers! i was also so excited to take them out to two new places i've had my eyes on for a while :) the first stop was a new church in oceanside that is always mysteriously empty, then it was over to some industrial park contruction zone. colleen and dan are two truly amazing people and i hope to have captured a small piece of their awesome spirit and love for one another. thanks guys!

first up, an idea i've had in my head for a while that finally worked out!

the broken down church van seemed like a great place for pics :)
i absolutely love the contrast of their solidarity against all the termoil in the background of this image. look at the wind howling on those palm trees!
i LOVE this image (and i shot surprisingly few verticals) so it gets a JUMBO!
the side of this hill is actually all that spray on grass growing stuff :)
this is another idea i've had running around in my head for a while...last shot of the day!
have a wonderful weekend everyone!
*nate

the image is found impromtu day at the beach 4.20.07
yesterday we were driving to the library to drop off some books and we pulled up next to our good friend jay reilly...he had his kids with him and was heading down to the beach to let the kids run around. so we flipped a u-turn and headed on down with him. it's really a shame...we live five blocks from the beach and we go like twice a year :( it was gorgeous outside yesterday...bright and sunny! grace, kerian, and brooks had a great time running around on the beach getting wet and messy! here's a few shots from our handy dandy SD800...

we don't have snow here in sunny so cal, but we do have plenty of sand for sand angels :)
the one, the only, jay reilly!
grace burying her treasure (a rock)
grace and keiran
grace and keiran ended up getting totally soaked in the ocean....running in and out with the tide :)
last shot of the day...grace totally covered me in two huge handfulls of sand!
so....how's the weather in your neck of the woods? ;)

tying the knot august 11th, 2007

we had a blast shooting sarah and matthew's engagement session in downtown encinitas last week! sarah is actually the sister of another great photographer here in town so knew there would be at least three sets of eyes scrutinizing every image :) luckily for us, sarah and matthew gave us free reign of where to shoot so we had a fun time just wandering around downtown. here's a few!

i am still trying to figure out why i like this one but i really do :)
got coke?
i like this one so much it gets a jumbo size!
some guys on break wanted to strike a pose for us too :)

the image is found the most funnest place on earth 4.16.07
one of the best things about living in southern california and having a 3 year old has to be season passes to disneyland! we go at least once a month! it's so nice to be able to head up for a quick few hours, have some fun, and leave before we want to pull our eyes out. today we took a quick little trip up to meet jaclyn's parents and sister's family for a few hours of fun...and to test out my trusty new canon SD800 IS. which by the way, was an absolute pleasure to use all day...i am so stoked on it!

i started off the morning making grace an honorary mickey mouse pancake :)

check out our funny pics on our season passes :) grace wasn't in a very good mood the night we had to take that picture so she looks like a distressed refugee or something...
grace really likes her cousin rachael...here she is doing what she usually does, grabbing.
josh with his new star wars car....apparently i've missed out on the whole movement of making cars out of imperial soldier's helmets!
a random shot of the side of buzz lightyear's astro blasters.
rachael getting flipped upside down to help pass the time in the lines :)
grace and i kicking the crap out of zurg and his cronies in buzz light year's astro blasters!
my hunny :)
josh and phillip were rocking thomas the train and spider man moonboots...napoleon dynamite says: LUCKYYYYYY!!!
the very pensive phillip.
a jumbo shot of yours truly and super grace :)
this has to be grace's best meditative look...along with josh sporting the blue steel.
a long day for rachael...she fell asleep in john's hand on the train ride out of the park!
