last monday i had the opportunity to shoot a quick sesion with the hilarious craig family! it's always such a different dynamic shooting a family without any little kids....usually the kids provide all the distraction and laughs...when it's all adults that usually falls on the photographer :) luckily for me, the craig family were so easy going!

on wednesday al gore will be adressing congress demanding immediate action to help solve the climate crisis. the hope is to bring 500,000 signatures (i think 500,00 rocks to throw might be more effective) to the floor. there are currently 405,758 american signatures....just a few more to go! we all know our country could be doing a lot more to fight this global crisis, please take a minute to sign your name and let congress know that NOW is the time for action.
thanks :)

and since all posts are better with photos...here are some pretty trees :) |

there's nothing quite like a good drive to help clear your head :)
on sunday i took the land rover up the back side of palomar mountain. off-roading up 6000 feet was just what the doctor ordered! in an effort to relax a bit, i didn't even take a lot of pictures. i think i snapped sixteen frames...here are three...
near the summit they have they have just installed this great lookout. on a clear day there are amazing panoramic views, but today there was only a good view of haze and marine layer. but there was a conveniently placed father and son for my photo :)

doesn't this look like some sort of communications tower for "the others" from lost? |

here it is, our last shoot from our san francisco shooting trip!
we've been looking forward to shooting the unkrich family ever since we met lee on our tour of pixar animation studios last august. lee is a director at pixar studios, so obviously we were quite honored that he chose us to shoot his family's portrait! as excited as we were for the shoot, we could have never imagined showing up to find a cooler family to hang out with for the morning! lee, laura, and their three kids were all such a joy to be around...it was almost hard to shoot becasue we were too busy laughing with them :)
we started off shooting at fort baker, which is an old military fort on the other side of the golden gate bridge. we had lots of fun playing around the buildings and concrete tubes! how cute is max stuck in the middle :)
|
here's the kids! they seriously were three of the coolest, most interesting children we've ever met. in order of appearance: hannah, alice, and max. |
and of course we had to pull lee and laura away for some alone time :)
|
after fort baker we all headed back to their house in marin. i don't think words could describe just how amazing their house is...but to give you an idea, check out this shot in their tiki room! i don't think we've ever had a family work so hard for their pictures...they were running, jumping, dancing, etc. for almost three hours straight! |
face off between hannah and alice! |
after all the craziness it was definitely time for some drinks! |
then one last dance on the table :) |

tying the knot july 7th, 2007.
next up from our san francisco shooting extravaganza is tracey and greg's engagement session! on saturday afternoon we headed over the bay bridge (my arch nemisis) to meet up at the berkeley marina. tracey and greg are the lucky couple getting married on the most popular date of the year (7.7.2007) and we couldn't be happier to spend the day with such great people!
|
after the marina it was off to the berkeley train station!
|
i should probably explain this one...sometimes i get really stupid ideas in my head...usually they work, and sometimes they don't. the plan was to have greg crunch this grass inbetween his nose and top lip like a big mustache thing. well that didn't work so well but the resulting image was pretty funny anyway :)

getting hitched june 3rd, 2007
our first engagement session from san francisco was a blast! gina and reagan escorted us around their neighborhood in petrero hills and we all had a great morning full of fun and laughs. it's always nice to step out and shoot in locations that we haven't been before and be forced to be on our toes to create great images.
first up, i love this shot jaclyn took! |
gina and reagan took us to this cool little staircase in the middle of the neighborhood that was just so lush!!!
|
then we ran off to the roof of gina's office...we love roof access :) |
apparently this was the couch gina was interviewed on in her office! |
then it was off to one of their favorite cafe's... |
then one more backstreet...luckily the cameras don't have smellovision becasue the sewer gina was sitting next to reaked to high heaven!!! ah the romance! |

more good news to report! the results for the artistic guild of the wedding photojournalist assosciation winter contest were just announced and i placed three images in the top ten...including FIRST AND SECOND!!!
i am so excited to finally snag a first place and so humbled by the other amazing photographers from around the world who also placed in the competition.
|
the first place winner in the portrait category: the amazing angel and erik!
|
Judge's Comments: 1. This was by far the best category and the hardest to judge. Kudos to all of you! One of the best lit, composed and photoshopped portraits seen in quite a while. The mastery of light and attention to detail in this highly conceptualized image is apparent throughout every piece of this photograph Kudos to the photographer who brought this one together.
the second place winner in the portrait category: again, the amazing angel and erik!
|
Judge's Comments: 1. Well thought-out portrait with beautiful hue and saturation. The depth and detail reflected in this image is an exhibit of the photographers photoshop skills.
if you would like to check out more pictures from angel and erik's session, click here!
|
the 8th place winner: kim and matt...lit by audi headlights!
|
this is an exciting thing to see...after this contest, apparently i have reached the top of the heap :)

...san francisco pics.
first up, our dear friend anna! on our last trip to san francisco i had the opportunity to shoot some pictures for anna and her partner carla, you can see a few on the old blog. when we stopped by anna's place on thursday i was so excited to see two 30x40 inch prints from the shoot hanging in her dining room!
a note to all our clients out there: 30x40 inches isn't that big...it's dramatic! ;) |
next up....my arch nemisis, the bay bridge. after an engagement shoot over in emryville on saturday night we had to head back into the city for a get together at peter and elizabeth's house....the drive was maddening to say the least! so to pass our time sitting in the car for an hour long drive that should have taken 15 minutes we took some pictures of how we were feeling :)
|
stay tuned for two new engagement sessions and a family shoot from our trip to san francisco...coming soon! |

wow. we finally got to see the 300 movie last night! we were both totally floored by the whole thing...it is nothing short of astonishing from start to finish. we were so in awe of every single frame of the film....each one looked like the best image we could have stored in our minds translated into a moving film. it's so hard to even out into words just how amazing this film is to watch...our jaws were on the floor for a solid two hours!
so anyway...go see it! for all you photographers out there, the visuals alone will pull your eyes out of their sockets. for all you men, the battle scenes are the best i've ever seen put on film. for all you ladies, there are three hundred ripped men wtih six packs in leather underwear ;)

after a bug splattering 7 hours of driving through centtral california we finally arrived at the hotel union square which is right smack dab in the middle of downtown. jaclyn was very excited to see that we are right next door to H&M, urban outfitters, nordstroms, and just about every other store she wanted to visit while we were here!
i can barely contain myself...tonight we are going to see 300!!!!
and since all posts are more interesting with pictures...here is one i took yesterday on the drive up :)
